This week started off quite abruptly, we arrived on Sunday from Malta and we were back at work 08:30 AM on Monday. My cold did take a small break during the Malta trip but came back during the week stronger. Though it wasn’t bad enough to stay at home from work, but enough to be a pain.
We’ve gotten a lot of new projects at work and I’ve been assigned as a front-end developer for a Magento based project. At first it was a little intimidating working with Magento, sporting thousands of files, but I’ve actually become quite fond of their templating system. I can’t say I’ve already gotten to know all the ins and outs of the system, but I feel confident enough that I should be able to handle it.
One of the things I appreciate with Stockholm is the ability to be spontaneous in a non-expensive way. This weekend me and Paulina decided, actually on Friday, that we should take a cruise over to Finland. Using the Finlandsfärjan (roughly translated to Finland ferry) is probably one of the most inexpensive ways to travel between Finland and Sweden. The downside with these cruise ferries are that they’re often a very boring trip, it usually lasts between 12-24 hours (depending if your going one way or round-trip). The upsides are tax-free shopping and the almost stress free enviroment.
There’s a couple of routes you can choose to take, Stockholm-Helsinki, Stockholm-Mariehamn and Stockholm-Turku, to name a few. This time we chose the Stockholm-Turku route, but they’re all pretty much the same. The cabins, are usually quite small, around 11 square meters but they all fill the basic needs, 2-4 bunk beds, a shower and toilet. If you choose the premium ones you’ll also get a small TV and air-conditioning.
At the time of this writing we’re heading back to Sweden, smack in the middle between Turku and Stockholm and it’s about 7 hours left of the trip.
Another interesting fact came to me this week, Paulina told me that Beck, the fictional police homicide detective’s in-movie apartment was one block from where we live. I had to find an apartment-scene from the movie because I didn’t believe her at first. But to my surprise, she was actually right. The funny thing about this is that I watched a Beck movie not too many weeks ago, and when the scene from his apartment came, I tried to figure out where it was, but could’nt recognize it.
