Failed attempt at getting out and doing some photographyAugust 25, 2013
I had this great plan that I was going to do night-photography and make this week’s update about all the awesome pictures. But then came the weekend, and finally it was Saturday night. I went out to take some pictures, but sadly, I didn’t find the energy to actually find a good spot. So one picture will do.
Trying to think back about this week, what have I done? I know I’ve been stressed out, but now thinking back, I’m having a bit of trouble remembering what I’ve been stressed about. Paulina’s been in Vasa the whole week as well as this weekend, so my initial weekend plan was to sleep, the last two weekends we’ve had guests, so I haven’t really had the time to just relax and sleep.
Come to think of it, maybe that’s why I’ve been stressed? Though my plan failed quite miserably. I went to bed as soon as I got back from work on Friday, tried to fall as sleep for about two hours, gave up, and went to watch some netflix. At midnight I tried to get some sleep again, lay in bed for about an hour and a half before giving up, watched older seasons of 24 until 5 AM, when I finally got some sleep, and got up at noon, still feeling like I wanted to sleep more, but couldn’t. And that’s how I got the idea of doing some night-photography.
So armed with an idea and a wallet I went to town to get myself a tripod. And yes, I do own multiple tripods, but they are all “conveniently” tucked away in Vasa. I got the first Manfrotto tripod I could find. I guess I could’ve spent more time trying to figure out more specifically what kind of tripod I would need, a light one that’s good for walking, or a more sturdy one for longer exposures during windy nights. But inner-city Stockholm is pretty much a nightmare during the weekend because of all the tourists and random shoppers, and especially this weekend, when all the salaries got payed out on Friday. In Sweden, most people get their salaries on the 25th on any given month, but because the 25th fell on a Sunday, the salaries were payed out on the closest, previous bank day, i.e. Friday. I still think that the 1:st of every month is a better payday, mostly because it feels more logical (and because that’s how it works in Finland).
Anyway, being stressed out by all the people, I just wanted to get something and get back home as soon as possible.
And now I sit here with my tripod, but no real interest in going out. Funny how some things work out.
Out of curiosity, I looked in my archive for what I did last year this time around, and interestingly enough, almost exactly one year ago we filmed the short film Turd Song. And no, it hasn’t been released yet, and yes, as far as I know the project is still active, but a bit dormant for the moment. I believe that there does exist a rough edited draft of the film, but I’m having quite a lot of trouble finding it. Maybe next year?
If you feel this week’s update was a bit short, remember that I’ve written two other posts this week. The release of Monorun for Windows Phone and my take on the Microsoft Surface RT, be sure to check those posts out!
