Christmas holiday request approvedNovember 16, 2013
It’s hard to think that we’re already half way through November, which means Christmas is just around the corner. This summer I took a shorter vacation in order to have a longer Christmas holiday than usual.
I’ve got 14 days left of paid holiday, and this year, one only needs five vacation days to get two full weeks off during Christmas, which leaves me with nine extra days, in other words I’ll be on holiday from the ninth of December until the sixth of January 2014. That’s almost a month of spare time. Some people have asked me if it isn’t better to be on vacation during the summer months, while the summer months offer more outside activity I really think it’s better to work during the summer and relax during the winter. My reasoning is quite simple; During the winter almost everyone’s at work, which means the public transportation is a complete mess, adding the snow and the sub zero temperature, and I’d rather stay at home sleeping. The summer is the direct opposite of winter in many other ways than just the weather, the subway is near empty, and you get a lot more of concentrated work and because the sun is up almost 24 hours a day you get a large energy boost which in turn makes you more productive.
So the most logical thing to do is save energy during the winter and spend energy during the summer.
Okay, so I lied, I wont just sleep during my time off from work, I’m going to try and focus a lot of that time on personal projects that have been put to the side during these last few weeks.
Interestingly enough, the upcoming week will mark our one year “anniversary” in our current apartment. around this time last year we got the first snow. Boy do I miss snow (And that’s why I’ve post old pictures of snow in this blog post). Hopefully we’ll get some soon, a few weeks ago I talked about the weather getting colder, and since then it has only gotten warmer, the temperature is currently hovering about 10-15 degrees during the day.
Another thing that I’m really looking forward to in December is meeting Carlos. He decided to come on a weekend visit. I consider him as one of my closest friends, and I haven’t seen him since he moved to the UK (which is what, a year and a half ago?).
I really have no idea what I’m going to show him (nor what he wants to do), but I’m sure just hanging out will be great.
so yeah, good things are coming, just need to get through a few more stressful weeks and I’m golden.
